What? Busy again? Who does that?

Just a quick summary of my busy day. Now in Peru, this is an insanely busy basically never happens day.

7AM: Get up early decide not to go running (I do this everyday). But do decide to do laundary (ps-it’s very cold outside and the clothes have been soaking all night) host-mom feels my pain and loans me her rubber gloves. Aaah, another case of frost bite averted!

8:30AM: Still waiting for my ride to Carash. Was supposed to come at 8AM and is never late. I decide to walk to the Health Center since I technically was supposed to be working there this morning too. On the way, I bump into Roxana, who is the coordinator for the artisan NGO that is working in San Marcos. She is working on her sample CD of the different items they sell so I offer up myself and my digital camera to help in the afternoon.

9AM: Arrive and set to work on the banderola. The banderola is an interesting Peruvian custom of sorts. It is a banner that states (sometimes I think in as many words as possible) the purpose of the gathering at hand. I think it is also explicitly used for the background for photos taken at said event to prove they’re not reusing old photos. Maybe? We are having a Health Promoter Training on Friday. Did you see that? Three words. The banderola said, “CLAS San Marcos: Agente Comunitario de Salud Promoviendo Familias y Viviendas Saludables – 15-16 Junio 2007” Oh, and this is the first that I have heard of when this training actually was going to take place. Super.

11:30AM: Engineer from NGO drives by to chat with Health Center staff, shakes his finger at me as I strike my slightly annoyed pose complete with hands on hips. He was the one that was supposed to pick me up at 8. Well, the high school in Huaripampa is having an anniversary and there are going to be skits / singing (all summed up in the word actuaciones in Spanish) so we plan to go as soon as I’m done gluing letters on cloth and then cutting out the cloud name tags.

12:30PM: Leave for the Huaripampa. Drop note off under Roxana’s door that I will be back around three, hoping that she doesn’t mind me being two hours late.

2:00PM: Up in Huaripampa, it starts to rain, which is a little worrisome, so we decide to leave and have to lie to get out of eating food and drinking beer, which will surely last until dawn, engineer assures me. So, we head out.

2:30PM: Lunch! Get invited to help organize the radio shows for the week that the environmental NGO organizes (ooh!) but have to turn it down to work on the sample CD with Roxana.

3:00PM: Waiting…

4:00PM: Finally unoccupied, we get to work on taking pictures on every item that is in the office. Ironically causing such a stir that random San Marquinos walk up, stare, and a few times even bought some of the merchandise! Yay!

6:00PM: Sun sets, no more picture light, eat a cookie and head off to home.
