Earthquake News
Hey, this is random but I just got an email from the infamous PC headquarters in Lima with an update on the rebuilding efforts that are going on in Ica at the moment. I’ve heard that news on the earthquake has been hard to find so I thought this might be information you might not necessarily know, even though ya’ll are living in a 1st world country and all of that.
The second phase of the relief effort is now underway which focuses on building temporary shelters, improving sanitary conditions, and passing out blankets and food. Distribution has still been difficult because of continued looting and protests.
If you want to donate to the cause, USAID (United States Agency for International Development) is partnering with the following organizations to help those affected by the earthquake:
Catholic Relief Services (CRS)
CARE
Samaritan’s Purse
World Vision
All of these organizations have websites and easy instructions for tax deductible donations.
Peace Corps is also thinking about the possibility of sending Crisis Corps volunteers to the Ica area or transferring in-country volunteers for short term assignments in Ica.
Anyway, that was probably more than you needed to know about that.
